Gaza City’s Municipality warned on Sunday of a worsening humanitarian disaster as the rainy season begins, amid massive destruction to infrastructure caused by two consecutive years of Israeli genocidal aggression.
In a brief statement, the municipality said: “The city is facing a severe catastrophe due to widespread infrastructure damage and large-scale displacement — conditions that risk deteriorating further with the onset of winter.”
It noted that the approaching rainy season has heightened the fears of Palestinians in Gaza, given the extent of devastation inflicted on the city and its infrastructure.
The municipality affirmed that its teams are working “with all available means — despite harsh conditions and limited resources — to mitigate the impact of rainfall and protect residents as much as possible.”
Since October 8, 2023, Israeli forces, with U.S. support, have carried out acts of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, resulting in more than 68,800 martyrs, over 170,000 wounded, 10,000 missing, and massive destruction of urban, service, and institutional infrastructure.
