The Gaza Municipality has warned of a severe crisis in solid waste collection services as a result of an acute shortage of fuel needed to operate its vehicles, confirming that some of these vehicles will stop working starting today, Saturday, which will directly affect its ability to remove waste from the city’s streets.

In its statement, the municipality explained that more than 350,000 cubic meters of waste have accumulated in city streets and temporary dumping sites, as its crews are being prevented from reaching the main landfill in the Hajar al-Deek area east of the city.

The municipality further warned that this dangerous situation threatens to worsen environmental and health crises, as these accumulations create a fertile environment for the spread of infectious diseases.

Gaza Municipality appealed to the international community and humanitarian and relief organizations to intervene urgently to provide the fuel necessary for operating waste collection vehicles and to allow its teams safe access to the landfill in Hajar al-Deek.

Since 7 October 2023, the Zionist enemy, with U.S. and European support, has continued committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, involving killing, starvation, destruction, displacement, and arrests, while ignoring international calls and International Court of Justice orders to halt such acts.

This genocide has resulted in more than 241,000 Palestinians killed or wounded, most of them children and women, in addition to over 11,000 missing persons, hundreds of thousands displaced, and a famine that has taken many lives, mostly children. The destruction has also caused widespread devastation that has wiped most cities and areas of the Strip off the map.
