Ismail Al-Thawabta, head of the Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip, confirmed the worsening risks posed by the ongoing weather depression and its humanitarian consequences, noting that the situation of those affected by rain and flash floods remains difficult and complex amid continued Zionist aggression and its repercussions.

In a statement to the Palestinian Safa News Agency, he warned that the disaster in Gaza is imminent, given the fragile infrastructure resulting from ongoing genocide and destruction that has not ceased.

He explained that the capacity of relevant authorities to provide a comprehensive response is limited due to the continuation of the blockade and the Israeli enemy’s closure of all crossings, preventing the entry of shelter materials, which threatens a renewed humanitarian tragedy.

Al-Thawabta emphasized the need to pressure the enemy to open crossings and allow the entry of essential materials for humanitarian response, noting that a large number of families still reside in temporary shelters lacking basic living necessities.

He added that heavy rainfall, strong winds, the potential formation of flash floods, and water accumulation complicate the situation further as the depression hits, highlighting that authorities continue evacuation efforts despite limited resources due to shortages and the ongoing blockade and widespread destruction.

He pointed out that there is extensive damage to infrastructure, including sewage networks and rainwater drainage systems, with ongoing health and environmental risks.

The Zionist genocide in Gaza, which lasted two years and ended with a ceasefire agreement that took effect on 10 October 2025, resulted in more than 70,000 Palestinian martyrs and over 170,000 injured, most of them children and women. The United Nations has estimated the cost of reconstruction at approximately $70 billion.
