Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, affirmed that Iran “is still in the midst of war,” noting that “no peace or ceasefire has been reached.”
He added that it is illogical to stir new crises under such circumstances, stating that “these ongoing events are being orchestrated from abroad.”
Larijani explained that during the 12-day war, following the start of the military operation, “the enemy tried to mobilize people in the streets but failed.” He also noted that U.S. President Donald Trump “announced that if a social crisis occurs, military operations would be launched. This time, the enemy’s tactics were aimed at breaking the cohesion of the people.”
He said, “The enemy targeted symbols of Iranian national identity, including the flag, mosques, and the Holy Quran,” questioning, “If the issue were purely economic, why are stores being looted and burned?” He stressed that the security crisis does not solve economic problems but rather deepens them.
Larijani described the rioters as a “semi-civilian terrorist group,” recalling that the Zionists had declared months ago their intention to use structures they established inside Iran for a new adventure. He revealed that the leaders of the riots have been identified and some arrested.
He noted that in some cases weapons were found, including G3 and Colt pistols, indicating prior organization. Larijani emphasized that the rapid movement toward military and security centers to acquire weapons signals an attempt to ignite a civil war.
He stressed that the armed forces remain on high alert while calling for clarification to avoid clashes in the streets, underlining that the involved parties are Iranian citizens.
Larijani added that the enemy seeks to polarize society, but the Iranian people have proven they stand firm even to death when the country’s identity is at risk. He acknowledged that there are economic problems that must be addressed, but stated that the solution is not chaos and insecurity.
He further emphasized that national solidarity is essential to overcome this stage, asserting that security and judicial institutions will act firmly against armed groups attacking government and security centers and endangering citizens’ lives. He concluded that the Zionist entity is behind the current situation.
