The Global Sumoud Fleet (GSF) announced the launch of its largest relief mission to date aimed at breaking the Zionist blockade on the Gaza Strip, by land and sea, with the participation of around 3,000 people from more than 100 countries. The mission is scheduled to set off on March 29.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the fleet said that vessels will sail from ports in Barcelona, Italy, and other locations across the Mediterranean Sea, calling on additional participants to join the mission.

The initiative comes months after the Israeli enemy army intercepted aid boats last October and detained around 500 activists and humanitarian workers, including Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, sparking angry international reactions and waves of protests around the world.

The Palestinian Social Forum described the initiative as “a coordinated, nonviolent effort to challenge the illegal Israeli blockade on Gaza, confront global complicity, and stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.”

According to the organizers, more than 1,000 medical professionals, including doctors and nurses, have registered to provide assistance to Palestinians facing a severe humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. As in previous missions, participants will undergo training in nonviolence and de-escalation.

The organizers also noted that more than 30,000 people applied to join the initiative last year, renewing their call for additional applications and support to help fund and carry out this year’s mission.
