Hamas leader Abdel Rahman Shadeed affirmed that the assassination of freed prisoner Basel Al-Haymuni, who had been deported to the Gaza Strip, confirms that the Zionist enemy treats prisoners and freed individuals as open targets and continues its policy of revenge against them even after their release, in blatant disregard for international law and all agreements that have been signed.
Shadeed stated on Thursday that while mourning martyr Al-Haymuni, he emphasized that this crime is part of a dangerous approach followed by the enemy during the genocidal war, in which a large number of freed prisoners were assassinated in an attempt to retaliate against their struggle history and national standing.
He explained that the Zionist enemy’s targeting of prisoners inside jails as well as freed individuals exposes the criminal mentality of the occupation, which perceives them as a threat to its fascist project, and because the prisoners’ experience embodies awareness, resilience, and inspiration for future generations.
The Hamas leader stressed that these aggressive policies will not succeed in deterring or subjugating the Palestinian people but will instead strengthen their commitment to the path of resistance.
He called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and exert strong pressure to restrain the Zionist enemy and halt its massacres against the Palestinian people, emphasizing that targeting prisoners and freed individuals constitutes a war crime that requires accountability.
