The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office mourned on Thursday the death of freed prisoner Basel Al-Haymuni, a native of al-Khalil , who was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting him in the Gaza Strip, years after being forcibly deported there under the 2011 “Wafa Al-Ahrar” prisoner exchange deal.
In a statement, the office said that Al-Haymuni spent many years in Israeli enemy prisons, during which he was subjected to oppression and abuse, before being released and deported away from his city and family. It emphasized that he remained committed to his cause until the moment of his martyrdom.
The statement noted that his martyrdom comes within the framework of a systematic Israeli policy targeting deported freed prisoners, in part of ongoing assassinations targeting leaders of the Palestinian prisoners’ movement and resistance.
The office affirmed that this incident represents a continuation of the Zionist enemy’s approach in targeting fighters and attempting to break their resilience, holding the Israeli authorities fully responsible for his killing.
The statement concluded by stressing that the blood of martyrs will remain a witness to the crimes of the Zionist enemy, and that their sacrifices will continue to inspire the pursuit of prisoners’ freedom and the end of the occupation.
