The Hamas-affiliated Asra Media Office (AMO) reported Wednesday that the number of Palestinian women currently held in Israeli prisons has risen to 59, following more than 680 arrests of women since 7 October 2023.

In a press statement, the AMO said the figure includes minors and does not account for women from Gaza whose whereabouts remain unknown inside Israeli military camps.

According to the statement, the list of detainees includes two women diagnosed with cancer, two minors, and one prisoner who gave birth while in detention.

The majority of the women face charges of “incitement,” while nearly one-third are being held under administrative detention, imprisonment without formal charges or trial.

The AMO said female detainees are being held under harsh conditions, including inadequate nutrition, medical neglect, repeated raids on prison cells, solitary confinement, and violations of privacy.

It added that former prisoners and female journalists remain among those detained, and accused Israeli authorities of using women as leverage against their families.

Official Palestinian figures indicate that approximately 9,350 Palestinians are currently being held in Israeli prisons as of early January.
