The United Nations affirmed on Monday the urgent need in the Gaza Strip to transition to longer-term housing solutions to protect displaced families from weather conditions and to restore privacy and dignity, noting that emergency shelter materials provide only temporary protection.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a post on its Telegram channel that the United Nations and its humanitarian partners “continue to provide life-saving support to more than two million people across the Gaza Strip, despite Zionist obstacles.”

It explained that “the entry of most educational materials into Gaza remains restricted, delaying efforts aimed at enabling all children to continue their education. Students with disabilities face even greater barriers, as the entry of assistive devices is largely being prevented.”

The office pointed out that UN partners leading emergency shelter efforts since February have reached more than 7,700 families with tents, tarpaulins, sealing kits, mattresses, kitchen tools, clothing, and vouchers.

It added that education sector partners continue to enhance learning spaces and, over the past two weeks, have expanded or improved 160 temporary learning sites, enabling access for approximately 100,000 children.

With American and European support, the Zionist enemy’s “army” has, for more than two consecutive years since October 7, 2023, committed acts of genocide, siege, and starvation in the Gaza Strip. These actions have resulted in the killing of 72,073 Palestinian civilians, the majority of them children and women, and the injury of 171,749 others to date, in a toll that remains non-final, as thousands of victims are still under the rubble and in the streets, unreachable by ambulance and rescue crews.
