Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Islamic Republic of Iran has once again been subjected to military aggression launched by the United States and the Zionist entity, targeting its territory and national sovereignty.
The ministry explained that the airstrikes were carried out early this morning, just before the advent of Nowruz and on the tenth day of the holy month of Ramadan. The attacks reportedly included multiple sites and targets, among them defense facilities, infrastructure, and civilian locations in several Iranian cities. The ministry described the strikes as a blatant violation of Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
The statement added that the aggression occurred at a time when Tehran and Washington were engaged in a diplomatic track. It noted that Iran entered the negotiations despite being aware of the other side’s intentions, with the aim of completing its case before the international community, proving the legitimacy of its position, and denying any pretext that could be used to justify acts of aggression.
The ministry affirmed that the Iranian people had done everything necessary to avoid war, but that the current stage requires defending the country and confronting military attacks. It stressed that Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared to respond, just as they had been prepared for the diplomatic path, and that they will respond firmly to any aggression.
The statement further represent that the airstrikes constitute a clear violation of Paragraph 4 of Article 2 of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state. It added that the attacks amount to armed aggression under the provisions of international law. The ministry emphasized that responding to this assault is a legitimate right guaranteed under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which grants states the right to self-defense in the event of an armed attack.
Iran called on the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibilities and take immediate measures regarding a violation of international peace and security. It also urged the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, and its members to act urgently in accordance with their legal duties.
Tehran further appealed to all member states of the United Nations, particularly regional countries, Islamic states, and members of the Non-Aligned Movement, to explicitly condemn the aggression and take urgent collective steps to prevent the escalation of threats affecting the security and stability of the region and the world.
The statement concluded by affirming that the Iranian people have never submitted to external aggression and that the response will be decisive and deterrent, safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and security and making the aggressors regret their actions.
