Five sources told Reuters on Tuesday that the negotiating teams from the United States and Iran could return to Islamabad within the next few days, days after talks aimed at achieving a permanent ceasefire ended without any progress.

A source involved in the talks stated that the date has not yet been set, but the two sides may return soon, perhaps by the end of this week.

A senior Iranian source also said that "no specific date has been set, as the negotiators have left the period from Friday to Sunday open."

The agency quoted an official at the Iranian embassy in Pakistan as saying that a new round of talks could be held this week or early next week.

Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed on Monday that a new round of talks between Iran and the United States would begin soon, indicating the possibility of resuming negotiations and expressing satisfaction after the talks held in Islamabad last Saturday.

For his part, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif affirmed the continuation of intensive efforts to resolve the conflict between the United States and Iran.
