Iran’s Mehr News Agency, citing maritime tracking data, reported that a supertanker subject to Ameican sanctions has recently transited the Strait of Hormuz and anchored off the Iranian coast.

According to the report, the vessel—identified as “Kuba” (Yuri) and sailing under the flag of Curaçao—successfully crossed the strategic waterway before dropping anchor east of Iran’s Larak Island. The development comes despite American claims of a maritime blockade imposed on the strait.

The tanker has been listed under American sanctions since 2024 due to its involvement in transporting Iranian oil shipments to China.

Washington calims that it enforces a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and seeks to prevent vessels linked to Tehran from passing through it. However, reports indicate that numerous Iranian-affiliated ships have so far managed to either exit the strait or enter the surrounding region via this key maritime corridor.
