The Palestinian Ministry of Health warned that the only functioning oxygen generation station serving Gaza City and the northern governorates is at risk of shutting down, threatening a critical source of medical oxygen for patients, particularly those suffering from chronic illnesses, as well as supplies provided to non-governmental health institutions operating in the sector.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry said the station is experiencing repeated malfunctions due to heavy pressure and prolonged operating hours, amid the absence of sufficient alternatives. It warned that the situation could lead to a disruption in medical oxygen supplies and place patients’ lives at serious risk.

The ministry cautioned that the worsening danger could result in an imminent humanitarian disaster, especially as demand for oxygen continues to rise in hospitals and healthcare centers.

It called on all relevant parties and international institutions to urgently intervene by facilitating the entry of new oxygen generation stations and ensuring the sustainable supply of medical oxygen to healthcare facilities, in order to protect patients’ lives and maintain the continuity of medical services.

Since October 7, 2023, the Zionist enemy forces backed by American and European support, has committed genocide in the Gaza strip. The genocide has left more than 243,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, in addition to more than 11,000 missing persons, hundreds of thousands displaced, and widespread destruction across most areas of the Gaza Strip.
