Mojtaba Khamenei, Leader of the Revolution and the Islamic Republic of Iran, delivered a message to the Iranian people on Friday marking Workers’ Day and Teachers’ Day in Iran.
In his message, Khamenei said that Workers’ Day and Teachers’ Day are “two occasions on which the status of workers and the position of teachers are honored,” stressing that “every country depends on the two wings of knowledge and labor.”
He explained that teachers play an essential role in the first stage of achieving this goal, as they bear the great responsibility of imparting knowledge, increasing skills, and contributing significantly to the development of insight and the shaping of the identity of the next generation.
Khamenei noted that pupils, students, and university learners who grow under the guidance of each teacher will soon apply the skills they have learned and the knowledge they have acquired. He added that they may also reflect, in their morals, behavior, and speech across various fields of life—from the warm environment of the family to the workplace and the street—the conduct and words of their teachers like a mirror.
On the other hand, he described the field of labor as a vast arena stretching across the country, from homes, offices, business units, and mosques to farms, workshops, factories, mines, and many types of service professions.
He said that the more this broad field benefits from the elements of diligence and commitment, which are among the pillars of every major success, the greater and more secure the country’s progress will become.
Khamenei added that after more than 47 years of struggle, and after Iran demonstrated part of its remarkable capabilities in military confrontation with the enemies of its progress and advancement before the world, it must now also disappoint and defeat its enemies in the stage of economic and cultural jihad.
He stated that teachers would be among the most influential groups in the cultural battle, while workers would be among the most influential forces in the economic battle, saying that the two groups represent the backbone of the fields of culture and economy.
Support for Teachers and Workers
For that reason, Khamenei stressed that teachers and workers must be fully aware of the importance of their special position, which goes beyond merely being a job for which they receive wages.
He also said that while annual or periodic verbal appreciation is appropriate and justified, gratitude for the efforts of these two groups must be deeper and more practical than that.
He pointed out that it is the duty of the Iranian people to demonstrate strong support in assisting teachers and workers, just as they show support worthy of them through their presence in public squares and streets for their armed forces.
Among the necessary measures, he said, is ensuring greater participation by the families of pupils and students in the administration of schools and universities than in the past.
He also called for support for productive workers by prioritizing the consumption of goods produced within the country, especially by business owners facing hardship, who should avoid laying off workers or dismissing labor forces in production and service units as much as possible. Instead, he said, every worker should be regarded as an asset to the production or service unit.
Khamenei further emphasized that the respected Iranian government must support this charitable effort to the greatest extent possible.
He concluded his message by saying that “dear Iran,” just as it emerged after many years of effort as a military power, will continue on the path toward the peaks of progress. He said this would be achieved by drawing and reinforcing the lines of Iranian-Islamic identity in the minds and souls of the country’s youth through educators and teachers, and by prioritizing the consumption of domestically produced goods, which are the result of the efforts of hardworking Iranian workers.
His remarks come after the country faced an American-Israeli aggression that led to the destruction of civilian and labor facilities and also targeted schools and universities. Iran also continues to face an American blockade, while Iranian officials stress the importance of solidarity among workers, teachers, and society to rebuild the country, support education, and spread culture.
In this context, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said in a message marking Workers’ Day that the days of reconstruction after victory over enemies are drawing near, noting that this task “cannot be accomplished without the dear and honorable workers of the nation.”
