The American news website Axios, citing an unnamed U.S. official, revealed details of a potential memorandum of understanding that could soon be signed between Tehran and Washington. The proposed agreement addresses issues related to sanctions, oil exports, the Strait of Hormuz, the war in Lebanon, and the American military presence in the region within a 60-day negotiation framework.
According to Axios, the agreement would allow Iran to sell oil freely while negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program continue.
The report added that the United States would lift restrictions on Iranian ports and issue certain sanctions waivers to permit Iran to freely export oil, provided that the Strait of Hormuz remains open.
Axios also stated that the draft memorandum of understanding includes commitments from Iran not to pursue the acquisition of nuclear weapons.
The report noted that Iran had sought the immediate unfreezing of its financial assets and a permanent easing of sanctions. However, the American side insisted that such measures “would only happen after tangible concessions are made.”
Axios further reported that Tehran had provided Washington, through intermediaries, with verbal assurances regarding the scope of concessions it is prepared to offer concerning the suspension of uranium enrichment activities.
In the same context, the outlet stated that U.S. President Donald Trump consulted several Arab and Muslim leaders regarding the agreement, and that all of them expressed support for it.
The draft memorandum of understanding also reportedly stipulates that the war between "Israel" and Hezbollah in Lebanon would come to an end.
Additionally, Axios reported that U.S. forces deployed to the region over recent months would remain there throughout the 60-day period and would only withdraw if a final agreement is reached.
The report concluded by stating that Washington would agree to negotiate the lifting of sanctions and the unfreezing of Iranian funds during the 60-day negotiation period.
Earlier, U.S. President, the Criminal Donald Trump announced from the Oval Office at the White House that he had held what he described as a “very good” phone call with several leaders from countries in the region regarding the agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran and matters related to a “memorandum of understanding concerning peace.”
