The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted U.S. military bases in the region with missiles following recent U.S. aggression against Sirik and Qeshm islands, Iranian state television confirmed.
The IRGC stated that in retaliation for the American attack, it targeted two U.S. airbases in Kuwait as well as the remaining installations of the U.S. naval base in Bahrain.
According to the Revolutionary Guard, the U.S. aggression utilized drones to strike a communications center in Qeshm and another facility in Sirik. The IRGC added that the American attack came after four non-compliant oil tankers—incited and directed by the United States—attempted to exit the Strait of Hormuz illegally, without coordinating or paying heed to warnings issued by the Revolutionary Guard naval forces.
Prior to the Iranian strikes, the U.S. military announced that it had carried out raids against Iranian radar sites in Jowrok and Qeshm Island, claiming the operation was a "defensive action."
Following the retaliatory Iranian missile strikes, military and security responses were reported across the Gulf:
-
Kuwait: The Kuwaiti military reported that the sound of explosions echoed during the night, clarifying that they resulted from air defense systems intercepting missile and drone attacks.
-
Bahrain: The Bahraini Ministry of Interior activated air raid sirens in response to the incoming airstrikes.
Despite a Pakistan-mediated ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States that has been in place since April 8, 2026, Washington continues to carry out attacks against Iran in the Strait of Hormuz and other sectors. In turn, the Iranian Armed Forces have actively retaliated against these operations.
Tensions have escalated as U.S. destroyers and naval vessels attempt to transit the Strait of Hormuz, actions that meet direct resistance from Iran. This follows Tehran's official declaration on May 21 establishing a "maritime control zone" within the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
