The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today, Saturday, that Iranian-American talks will begin tomorrow, Sunday, in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, as a follow-up to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The Ministry stated that the talks will be held at the technical level within the framework of the Islamabad MoU. It added that representatives from the United States and Iran will participate in the discussions, alongside mediators from Pakistan and Qatar.
The Ministry affirmed that Pakistan will continue to facilitate the process in its role as a mediator, with the aim of advancing the understandings reached by Islamabad under the MoU.
In this context, the Fars News Agency quoted the spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei, stating that an Iranian delegation will travel to Switzerland to follow up on the implementation of the opposing party's commitments in accordance with the MoU.
Baghaei, who serves as both the Foreign Ministry spokesperson and a member of the Iranian negotiating delegation, said that Iran will demand the implementation of the other party's obligations during the meetings, noting that the discussions will clarify how the other side intends to fulfill these commitments.
He added that this visit comes with the objective of demanding a follow-up on the execution of the counterparty's obligations, explaining that the primary benchmark for evaluating any agreement is its implementation phase.
He pointed out that according to Clause 13 of the MoU, the commencement of negotiations to reach a final agreement is conditional upon the initiation and continued implementation of the other party's obligations, based on Clauses 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called for the necessity of US commitment and responsibility toward ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon. He emphasized that "the United States will bear the responsibility for any violation of the commitments contained in this Memorandum of Understanding," warning of the repercussions and consequences of such an action.
