Deputy Foreign Minister Abdulwahid Abu Ras met on Tuesday with Anthony Hayward, Military Adviser to the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen, in the presence of Snezana Kaufman, Head of the Security Arrangements Section at the Special Envoy's Office, and Mohammed Al-Ghannam, Director of the Special Envoy's Office in Sana'a.
The meeting reviewed the latest developments regarding the transfer of the responsibilities of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA) to the Office of the Special Envoy, as well as developments at the national, regional, and international levels.
During the meeting, the Deputy Foreign Minister reaffirmed Sana'a's commitment to achieving peace and implementing the Stockholm Agreement, including the Hodeidah Agreement, and to providing all necessary support to facilitate the transfer of UNMHA's responsibilities to the Special Envoy's Office.
He stressed that the time has come to achieve peace in Yemen and that the current situation of neither peace nor war cannot continue indefinitely. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia must engage in negotiations to implement the agreed roadmap and take steps to address the worsening humanitarian crisis, particularly through reopening Sana'a International Airport and lifting restrictions on imports. These measures, he noted, are essential to preserving the progress achieved and preventing a slide into a situation with serious consequences.
Abu Ras further emphasized that misinterpretations of regional developments have hindered the peace process and could lead to a renewed outbreak of violence. He noted that recent events have demonstrated that any escalation in the region has negative repercussions for the entire world.
The Deputy Foreign Minister also affirmed that the region does not need further escalation or additional conflicts.
For his part, the Military Adviser to the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts aimed at achieving sustainable peace in Yemen.
