The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman, Abbas Araghchi and Badr Albusaidi, emphasized during a telephone call on Thursday the necessity of continuing bilateral coordination regarding maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a statement published on Araghchi's Telegram account, he and his Omani counterpart discussed the latest regional developments and topics of mutual interest, including arrangements related to maritime navigation in the Strait and the temporary measures scheduled to be implemented for a duration of 60 days.

Furthermore, both sides expressed their satisfaction with the outcomes of the Iranian delegation's recent visit to Muscat, while stressing the continuation of consultations and the follow-up of issues of mutual concern through diplomatic channels.

In this context, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman affirmed the day before yesterday the necessity for all arrangements concerning the Strait of Hormuz to fully respect the sovereignty and rights of the two coastal nations, in accordance with international law.

The Iranian delegation, which arrived in the Sultanate of Oman on Monday evening following a tour in Switzerland, had discussed with the Omani side ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Muscat. Future management arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz formed a key pivot of the meeting, which lasted for about two hours.

Following a meeting on Tuesday between the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tarik, and the Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran and Oman agreed in a joint statement to continue discussing the Strait of Hormuz file. This will be carried out through the formation of a joint committee between the foreign ministries of the two countries, aiming to reach an understanding regarding the future management of navigation in the Strait, as well as its associated services and related costs in line with international standards.

Within this framework, an informed diplomatic source told Reuters yesterday that the Prime Minister of Qatar visited Muscat to hold talks with the Sultanate of Oman regarding launching negotiations that would include Iran, Iraq, and the Gulf states concerning the future opening and operation of the Strait of Hormuz.

The source also revealed to Reuters that plans are currently underway to hold separate regional reconciliation talks between Iran and the Gulf states in Riyadh.
