Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that maintaining diplomatic processes and establishing lasting peace and security in the region require all parties to adhere to their commitments and refrain from any actions that incite tension.
This came during a telephone call on Friday evening between President Pezeshkian and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The two leaders reviewed the latest regional developments and ongoing diplomatic processes, while stressing the expansion of bilateral cooperation and the continuation of political consultations to enhance regional stability.
At the beginning of the conversation, President Pezeshkian expressed his appreciation for the attendance of a high-level Pakistani delegation at the farewell and memorial ceremony for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution. He described this presence as proof of the strength of strategic relations, the depth of historical, cultural, and religious ties, and the solidarity between the two nations.
He also praised the responsible stances and efforts exerted by the Pakistani government in supporting de-escalation and promoting diplomatic initiatives in light of recent developments in the region.
Addressing recent events, President Pezeshkian stated: "Under the current situation, alongside diplomatic efforts aimed at consolidating a ceasefire and preventing the expansion of the crisis, a dual trend has emerged. This is represented by the Zionist entity and the currents supporting tension-fueled policies on one hand, and the United States government on the other, which seeks—by breaching its commitments—to destabilize the existing status quo and prevent the establishment of peace in the region."
The Iranian President affirmed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always acted responsibly and in good faith in its interactions and the execution of its obligations, adding: "It is natural to expect other parties to adhere to their commitments and refrain from adopting positions or taking actions that undermine trust and complicate diplomatic processes. Mutual respect and practical commitment to obligations are essential prerequisites for any sustainable and successful agreement."
He noted that the decision-making process and the follow-up on negotiations are conducted within the framework of the state's macro-policies and under the supervision of the Leader of the Revolution, expressing hope that a responsible approach from all sides would help preserve the available opportunity to enhance regional peace, security, and stability.
The two leaders reviewed the progress made in economic cooperation between the two countries. Pezeshkian emphasized the need to accelerate the implementation of joint agreements and activate the role of responsible authorities in the fields of trade, agriculture, transport, industry, and other sectors. He called for maximizing the utilization of shared capabilities to elevate the level of economic relations between Tehran and Islamabad.
The President lauded Pakistan's constructive role in supporting diplomatic channels, praising the efforts of Shehbaz Sharif and the Pakistani Army Chief, General Asim Munir, describing them as effective and valuable in helping to defuse tensions and advance peaceful initiatives. He concluded by stating: "The more the concerned parties adhere to their commitments, the greater the opportunities for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region."
