Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi commented on recent U.S. decisions regarding Abu Dhabi, asserting that the U.S. Department of Commerce published a new document through which it rewards the UAE for its support of the recent military aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Gharibabadi emphasized the gravity of this step, stating decisively that "the UAE must take responsibility and be held fully accountable" for these policies.

The Iranian official's remarks came following an announcement by the U.S. Department of Commerce on Friday regarding the expansion of the UAE's access to sensitive military technologies, advanced satellites, and cutting-edge American products, including ultra-advanced artificial intelligence chips and servers.

Detailing the decision, the Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) explained that the United States elevated the UAE's classification within the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). This was done under the pretext of recognizing its status as a "Major Defense Partner" of the United States and in appreciation of its direct role in supporting and facilitating American security and military interests in the region.

The Department indicated in its official document that this new decision stipulates, among other things, the elimination of stringent restrictions previously imposed by Washington on supporting Emirati drone programs, thereby granting it a wider margin in operations, movements, and field development.

It noted that the decision is based on the ongoing military partnership between the two countries and the UAE's commitment to preventing the diversion or misuse of sensitive U.S. technology.

Furthermore, within the framework of the AI Cooperation Agreement signed between the two countries in May 2025, the Department announced its approval to enable the Emirati government and a number of certified companies to import advanced computing equipment—including AI chips and servers—without the need for export licenses.

It added that the UAE renewed its commitment to executing the investments stipulated in the agreement, which include parallel investments in AI infrastructure projects inside the United States.

Previously, Iran condemned the subversive measures pursued by the rulers of Abu Dhabi, accusing them of complicity with parties hostile to the Islamic Republic by continuing to host foreign military bases and equipment. Tehran stated that this contradicts the principle of good neighborliness, violates the foundations of the United Nations Charter, and threatens Iranian national security and interests.
