Gaza Rights Center (GRC) has warned that cancer patients in the embattled Gaza Strip face soaring mortality rates due to the collapse of medical services, halted treatments, and Israel’s restrictions on travel permits.
In a statement published on its website on Saturday, GRC said it was deeply concerned over figures disclosed by Al-Shifa Hospital director Dr. Mohamed Abu Salmiya, who reported that four to five cancer patients die each day due to the complete halt of chemotherapy treatment.
GRC cited Dr. Abu Salmiya as saying that around 4,000 patients in Gaza face death due to the absence of chemotherapy, amid a severe shortage of essential medicines exceeding 50 percent and the loss of more than 70 percent of vital medical supplies.
According to GRC, figures released by the World Health Organization (WHO) in December 2025 say that Gaza has about 12,500 cancer patients, with over 2,000 new diagnoses each year, 122 of them children.
