China's Ministry of Commerce strongly condemned the United States' decision to add more than 40 Chinese entities to the so-called "Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act Entity List," calling the move a form of "economic coercion" carried out under the pretext of human rights.
A Ministry spokesperson said the US continues to abuse human rights and forced labor pretexts to impose unilateral sanctions on Chinese enterprises under its domestic law, stressing that the listing lacks any factual basis.
The measures, the spokesperson added, have seriously undermined the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese companies involved and severely disrupted the stability of global industrial and supply chains.
The spokesperson added that on July 30, senior Chinese and US economic and trade officials held a "candid, in-depth, and constructive" video call focused on maintaining the stability of bilateral economic and trade relations, only for the US Department of Homeland Security to announce the addition of 43 companies to the Entity List one day later, on July 31.
Beijing asserted that move directly contradicted the consensus reached between the two heads of state and departed from the spirit of the previous day's talks.
