US President Donald Trump renewed his calls on oil companies to reduce gasoline prices for American consumers on Monday, criticizing Chevron Chief Executive Officer Mike Wirth for failing to credit his administration’s efforts to support the energy industry.

Trump accused Wirth of overlooking his administration’s role in strengthening the oil sector, including efforts that he said helped create new opportunities for oil companies in Venezuela, after Washington seized Caracas' oil wealth following the abduction of President Nicolas Maduro.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Wirth had failed to acknowledge his administration’s impact on the oil industry. "The only thing he conveniently forgot to mention is that, without the genius, foresight, strength, and stability, of the TRUMP Administration, the Oil Industry, and our Country itself, would be DEAD!" Trump wrote.

Trump pointed to Chevron’s operations in Venezuela as an example, saying the company had previously been removed from the country but later returned with expanded operations.

"As an example, they threw Mike and Chevron out of Venezuela, but now they’re back, far bigger and stronger than ever before, expecting to make a fortune!" he added.

He also called on other oil companies to reduce retail fuel prices, writing: "That goes for other Oil Companies as well…and get your consumer (retail!) Oil Prices DOWN, NOW!"
