Major General Mohsen Rezaei, Advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, announced Tuesday that Iran has thwarted an American plot to launch a ground assault, stating that the targeting of bridges in southern Hormozgan province was part of this scheme.
In an interview with Iranian television, reported by Sputnik, Rezaei said that "miscalculations by commanders of US Central Command (CENTCOM) led to the failure of their plan," noting that the attacks on Hormozgan were intended to isolate the Iranian coast from inland regions.
He added that precise Iranian strikes inflicted severe damage on a US base in Kuwait, forced the evacuation of Erbil, and led to the relocation of CENTCOM headquarters from Jordan to the occupied Palestinian territories. Rezaei emphasized that Iranian forces continued operations for two additional days after the American side stopped, to ensure Washington "realized the consequences of its actions."
Rezaei explained that recent American strikes focused on southern Iranian provinces, particularly Hormozgan, targeting bridges and roads connecting it to Fars province—a key corridor linking the country's center and north to coastal areas. He noted that the objective was to sever the Strait of Hormuz region from the Iranian mainland.
He affirmed that his country will not permit the opening of a "second corridor" in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that Iran will target any warship or military forces that approach the area.
In a related context, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman and negotiation delegation member Esmaeil Baghaei stated yesterday that talks conducted by Iran with the Sultanate of Oman focus on reaching an understanding regarding a safe transit route in the Strait of Hormuz. He confirmed that this route will be temporary and that Iran will ensure through it the continued flow of traffic across the strait.
Rezaei further remarked that actions taken by US President Donald Trump could spark World War III, describing the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz as the "most dangerous fuel" for such a scenario.
This comes in the context of renewed US aggression against Iran, which has prompted Iranian retaliatory operations targeting numerous US bases in the region.
