Israeli occupation authorities have acknowledged the death of Palestinian detainee Ehab Mohammad Abdel Qader Diab, 36, from the Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs on Sunday, August 9.

Diab had been detained by the Israeli occupation since December 12, 2023.

The commission said it received a response from the Israeli prison administration confirming Diab's death. According to the response, the occupation authorities claimed that Diab had been suffering from a health condition.

His family rejected that claim, saying he was healthy and did not suffer from any illnesses when he was detained.

The commission said Diab is believed to have died on September 18, 2024, although his death was only acknowledged by the Israeli authorities later.

The delayed acknowledgment adds to concerns raised by Palestinian detainee organizations over the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons and detention facilities.
