UN Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Ramiz Alakbarov warned the Security Council that the occupied West Bank has reached a "breaking point" amid a record rise in Israeli settler violence, mass forced displacement of Palestinians, and the systematic erosion of the prospects for Palestinian statehood.

Alakbarov stressed that the situation in the occupied West Bank "is not a sudden deterioration," but rather the "result of the decades of unresolved conflict that has deepened the unlawful Israeli occupation drive the Palestinian Authority to the brink of collapse and undermined the prospects for an independent, viable and sovereign Palestinian State."

According to Alakbarov, dozens of Palestinians have been killed and around 3,800 forcibly displaced in 2026 due to Israeli demolitions, while more than 1,400 settler attacks have been documented across 260 communities.

UN warns of escalating Israeli settler violence

Alakbarov warned that the developments are "interconnected steps, not isolated developments," describing a pattern in which Palestinians are being forcibly driven from their villages before their land is occupied.

Against this backdrop, the UN official noted that, for the first time, land was explicitly seized in "Area A" to build settlement infrastructure.

Earlier today, the Israeli military command declared the Palestinian Christian village of al-Taybeh, east of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, a “closed military zone,” claiming the measure was intended to prevent settler attacks against the village.

According to the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (KAN), the order was issued by Central Command chief Avi Blot and bars anyone who does not reside in al-Taybeh or the surrounding area from entering the village.
