Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Thursday described the behavior of several countries, led by France, as "hypocritical," responding to a joint statement calling on Tehran to "guarantee respect for human rights."

In a post on his account on the X platform, Araghchi stated: "Countries like France should stop lecturing the world about 'human rights' and international law. Their hypocrisy is blatant and shameful."

He added: "Your support for the Israeli genocide in Gaza and your aggression against Iran have wiped out any moral high ground you thought you possessed."

Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot noted that the European Union and 26 countries condemned, in a joint statement, Iran's "execution of protesters," as they claimed.

According to Reuters citing the text of the statement, the countries called on Iran to "listen to its people, take concrete steps to ensure respect for human rights, immediately halt the use of the death penalty, and release those arbitrarily detained."
