The number of U.S. service members wounded since the start of the war on Iran has surpassed 750, according to the Pentagon's casualty database.
CNN reported that the Department of Defense updated its database on Wednesday, recording more than 50 additional wounded personnel, as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain heightened.
According to the updated data, 18 U.S. service members have been killed and 757 injured since February 28, following the consolidation of total casualties recorded in the overseas operations analysis system with losses linked to the war on Iran.
These figures follow weeks of criticism directed at the Pentagon by media outlets and lawmakers over discrepancies and low reported casualty figures.
Last month, four deaths and dozens of injuries temporarily disappeared from the total figures before being restored to official statistics.
The U.S. news outlet The Intercept previously reported that the Pentagon had removed the names of wounded American soldiers from the casualty list associated with the war on Iran.
Official Pentagon casualty statistics represent a "cover-up of losses," according to a U.S. government official. The Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS)—which tracks military casualties, injuries, and illnesses for Congress and the President—fails to account for hundreds of known injuries.
