Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that “there is no option but to speak respectfully with the Iranian people, and to reach a solution based on justice and dignity.”
Araghchi made the remarks on Sunday on the sidelines of a ceremony renewing allegiance to the principles of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, marking Government Week. His comments came in response to US threats to impose “severe economic sanctions,” saying that “the economic operation that Trump claims is a repeated scenario and the same familiar style of bullying in US policies. In other words, it is a repeated film we have watched many times, and we know how to confront it and deal with it.”
Araghchi continued: “As for military operations and saying that we will strike here and there, they have returned once again to those old plans. This shows that they are incapable and in a state of desperation. They cannot find a solution or any way out in dealing with the great Iranian people, and they continue to put repeated scenarios and plans on the table.”
He went on to explain that “they must understand that there is no option but to speak respectfully with the Iranian people, and to reach a solution based on justice and dignity.”
In response to a journalist’s question about whether Iran fears an economic blockade and the threats, the foreign minister said: “We have never been afraid. All their moves, whether the blockade or the other military moves they have carried out, have failed, and this new discussion of theirs will also fail.”
