The naval force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Monday that a non-compliant giant oil tanker was hit by two naval mines while attempting to pass through an illegal route south of the Strait of Hormuz, causing massive fires to break out on board and bringing the vessel to a complete halt.

The IRGC naval force warned that “the fate of vessels that violate the security regulations in the Strait of Hormuz will be no different from what happened,” reiterating that compliance with the navigation instructions and regulations issued by the force is mandatory.

The IRGC Navy called on shipping companies not to be misled by the “provocations of the US military” and not to expose their property and the lives of their vessel crews to destruction and danger.

Iranian officials have repeatedly affirmed that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed, and that permission for vessels to pass will be limited exclusively to commercial vessels in accordance with the approved memorandum of understanding, stressing that the strait will not be fully reopened unless the war is ended on all fronts, the blockade is lifted, and Washington fulfills its commitments in accordance with the memorandum.
