Iran affirmed on Monday that “the Iranian Armed Forces will not hesitate to exercise their legitimate right to self-defense,” in response to the US attack on Lark Island.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed in a statement that “Tehran will respond firmly and in an appropriate manner to any military aggression.”
The Iranian Foreign Ministry held the United States and the parties colluding with it responsible for the consequences of the US aggressive actions and the continuation of the blockade.
It noted that “the Iranian Armed Forces targeted the US military bases located in Jordan, which served as a source of and support for the US military aggression against Iran, in their defensive strikes.”
It strongly condemned the US military aggression against Lark, noting that it constitutes a clear violation of Paragraph 4 of Article 2 of the United Nations Charter.
It recalled the responsibility of the United Nations Security Council and the Secretary-General personally to fulfill their responsibilities in preserving international peace and security and holding the aggressor party accountable.
The Islamic Republic of Iran also reminded the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, and all countries that have expressed concern over the continued insecurity in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz that the sole factor behind the insecurity of the region’s maritime route has been the illegal and aggressive actions carried out by the United States and “Israel,” which began with the attack on Iran on February 28 and continued over the past six months in various forms, including the maritime blockade and other provocative and interventionist measures.
Yesterday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that Lark Island, in the south of the country, had come under US aggression, resulting in a number of deaths and injuries, stressing that the attack would be met with a response.
It is noteworthy that Lark Island, along with the other islands and cities located in southern Iran, witnessed intense attacks targeting vital facilities, ports, and maritime observation towers during a round of daily attacks launched by US forces against Iran last July.
The island is considered one of the most important islands overlooking the Strait of Hormuz, as it lies at the narrowest point of the strait and alongside the actual shipping lanes used by vessels, making it an advanced point for monitoring and surveillance.
