The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) warned Tuesday that funding shortages are forcing it to halve the number of people receiving food assistance in the occupied West Bank, as humanitarian needs continue to rise.
Speaking to reporters in Geneva via a connection from London, WFP Representative in the Palestinian territories Sean Hughes said the agency is being forced to reduce the number of people it assists in the occupied West Bank by half.
The reduction comes as food needs in the occupied West Bank have more than doubled compared with two years ago, Hughes warned, raising concerns over the consequences of reduced humanitarian assistance.
The WFP representative cautioned that the funding shortfall could have severe consequences for Palestinians who rely on food assistance amid worsening humanitarian needs across the occupied West Bank.
