In an opinion piece for The Guardian, Nesrine Malik argues that the gap between what is being inflicted on Palestinians and the international community’s response has become so vast that it risks obscuring reality itself.

As arms export licences for "Israel" from states such as Germany surge, discussions of harsher measures and sanctions by other European countries remain largely rhetorical, while Palestinians continue to be killed in Gaza and families in the West Bank remain under siege.

Malik argues that the Israeli political right is increasingly removing any ambiguity over its intentions by openly articulating its schemes for Palestinians.

A sample from only the past few days illustrates the point. On Thursday, "Israel’s" far-right police minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, detailed a scheme for the illegal ethnic cleansing of all Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. He also posted an AI-generated video, since deleted, depicting Palestinian men entering a conveyor belt into detention and emerging emaciated and tearful. Around the same time, War Minister Israel Katz said the occupation was “organised and prepared” to expel Palestinians from Gaza “by every way possible”.
