The Yemeni Armed Forces announced on Monday that they had carried out a large-scale military operation targeting King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait in response to intensified Saudi aggression against Yemen over the past five days.
In a statement delivered by spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Sare'e, the Yemeni Armed Forces said the operation targeted military facilities and infrastructure at the base, including warplane hangars, radar systems, runways, ammunition depots and other military sites.
The statement said the operation involved dozens of ballistic missiles and drones, stressing that the strikes scored direct and accurate hits and caused significant losses at the air base.
The Yemeni Armed Forces said the operation came in response to the Saudi aggression against Yemen and a major escalation that included more than 300 airstrikes over the past five days.
It said Saudi F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets carried out the attacks against most Yemeni provinces after taking off from the Khamis Mushait and Taif air bases.
The statement stressed that the Yemeni Armed Forces would continue military operations targeting deep inside Saudi Arabia as long as the Saudi aggression against the Yemeni people continues, warning that any further aggression would be met with broader and more intense operations.
It also reaffirmed the continuation of the blockade-for-blockade and escalation-for-escalation equations, as well as the targeting of Saudi military mobilizations, until the aggression stops and the blockade on Yemen is lifted.
King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait is a major Saudi military installation and has been used to launch air operations against Yemen.
The latest Yemeni operation comes amid a sharp escalation in Saudi airstrikes and renewed fighting along several fronts, with Sana'a warning that continued attacks will trigger further strikes against Saudi military and strategic targets.
