The number of prisoners in Israeli prisons reached 9,350 prisoners, up to the beginning of current September, including 90 female prisoners and more than 350 children, according to data published by Palestinian prisoner institutions on Wednesday, based on information available to them and what the Israeli prison administration announced regarding some categories.
Data showed that the number of administrative detainees reached 3,176 detainees, while the number of detainees classified by Israel as “unlawful combatants” reached 1,393 detainees.
Prisoner institutions clarified that the last figure does not include all Gaza Strip detainees held in camps belonging to the Israeli army and classified within this category, as it also includes Arab detainees from Lebanon and Syria, which makes the actual numbers of detainees within this classification incomplete.
These figures point to the continuation of administrative detention as one of the most prominent detention tools used by Israel, as it holds thousands of Palestinians without public charges or trial, with the possibility of renewing detention orders for consecutive periods.
