Israeli media outlets have reported serious concerns over the escalation of threats from the Yemeni Armed Forces and the renewed suspension of operations at the port of Eilat, coinciding with the approach of the holiday season for the occupation.
In an interview with Israeli Channel 14, the mayor of Eilat, Eli Lankri, acknowledged that the Yemenis have imposed full control over the area surrounding the Bab al-Mandab Strait, describing the situation as "a state of chaos in international navigation routes."
Lankri affirmed that "control over the Bab al-Mandab and Hormuz straits is extremely concerning," saying that "partial solutions, if you will, previously allowed the operation of Eilat port via Jordan, and these escalations are now threatened with collapse and are unsustainable."
Lankri stressed that the port is a strategic and economic asset of paramount importance not only for Eilat but for "Israel".
