The average price of diesel fuel in the US has reached a new record, exceeding $6.48 per gallon, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA) analyzed by RIA Novosti.
Prices increased by about 4 cents in a single day and nearly 8 cents over the course of the week. By comparison, diesel fuel cost nearly half as much a year ago, at around $3.70 per gallon.
California has the highest diesel fuel price in the US, with a gallon costing $8.42.
Diesel fuel prices directly influence the cost of goods because diesel powers agricultural machinery and the heavy-duty trucks that transport products throughout supply chains.
Higher diesel costs can therefore add to transportation and production expenses, potentially affecting the prices of goods across the wider economy.
