Senior Republican lawmakers are urging US President Donald Trump to halt diesel exports as record fuel prices place mounting pressure on farmers, truckers and manufacturers ahead of the midterm elections, the Financial Times reported.

The push has gained momentum among lawmakers representing agricultural states, where soaring diesel costs are squeezing farm incomes and increasing the expense of transporting goods.

US diesel prices climbed to a record  $6.51 per gallon on Monday, having risen by more than 70% since the war on Iran began in February. Tight global supplies have been further strained by disruptions linked to the war in Ukraine.
