The Pentagon quietly raised its public count of US troops wounded in the war on Iran by 37 , The Washington Post reported .

The WP found the additions, 29 Navy sailors and eight Marines, in the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS), the Pentagon's public database of personnel killed or wounded in US wars and overseas operations. As of Wednesday, the database puts the number of troops wounded in the war at 861.

More than half of those cases are logged under "Overseas Operations" and date from the start of a July "ceasefire" between Washington and Tehran, which later collapsed. Casualties from before the ceasefire were recorded under "Operation Epic Fury," the Trump administration's name for the war.

The database does not say how or when the 37 were injured. A Navy official told the paper that all the sailors had returned to duty but did not describe their injuries. Department of War officials have previously said DCAS entries can lag by days or longer, in part because concussions and brain injuries may not show symptoms right away
