The Yemen Scholars Association has condemned statements by Saudi regime Mufti Saleh Al-Fawzan, who stated that Yemenis are targeting Mecca, warning of the danger posed by corrupt and court scholars to the Muslim community.

In a statement, the association said that Al-Fawzan’s remarks contained false accusations and incitement against Yemen, rejecting claims that Yemenis had targeted Mecca. It pointed out that scholars with Saudi rulers are treating religious rulings as a political function carried out under the direction of kings and princes.

The association also criticized the Saudi scholars’ failure to respond to offenses against Islamic sanctities, including the Kaaba, the Prophet, the Quran, and Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as developments in Gaza.

The association further stressed that Saudi authorities are suppressing scholars who criticize the government, opposing the Palestinian cause, and pressuring Yemen, arguing that Yemen supports Palestine and the wider Muslim community.

The statement urged Saudi religious scholars, including Al-Fawzan, to speak out against violations by the Al Saud family and to oppose US and Israeli policies if they genuinely uphold their religious principles.

The statement comes amid renewed Saudi allegations that Yemen has targeted Mecca, which Yemeni officials and religious figures have repeatedly rejected. The dispute coincides with intensified Saudi air operations against Yemen and renewed military developments along the western coast, including around the strategically important Bab al-Mandab Strait.
