Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi affirmed that Iran’s main course is to set out Tehran’s conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz and to move the negotiations forward.
In remarks to Iran’s “Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting” and IRNA news agency, Araghchi explained that meetings with mediators had seen these conditions conveyed, fully explained, and clarified, noting that the mediators, in turn, conveyed these points to the American side.
The Iranian foreign minister pointed out that the initial reaction of the US president had been observed, but the mediators had not yet conveyed anything official to Tehran, adding: “We are waiting for the final views to be conveyed to us through the mediators, and based on that, we will make our decision.”
Araghchi stressed that the Iranian conditions are clear, and that any step toward opening the Strait of Hormuz is contingent upon fulfilling these conditions, without backing down from them whatsoever.
In a related context, Araghchi noted that the Iranian people have demonstrated their strength on the military front and in the diplomatic arena, as well as in the economic sphere and in confronting sanctions, stressing that there is no path other than a negotiated solution based on honor and justice, while safeguarding the rights of the Iranian people and meeting their legitimate demands.
He added that no one in the world today can accuse the Islamic Republic of Iran of failing to test the diplomatic path, stressing that Iran has never closed the door to diplomacy and negotiations, but at the same time has never surrendered its rights.
The Iranian foreign minister concluded his remarks by stressing that whenever Iran’s enemies have chosen another path, the Islamic Republic has confronted them with full resolve on that path as well.
On Saturday, US President and criminal Donald Trump, announced his rejection of the latest Iranian proposal, saying that he “wants a deal, but the proposal is unacceptable.”
Two days earlier, Araghchi stated that Tehran had delivered a plan to the United States through Qatar, consisting of a seven-day framework, adding: “When the United States accepts our conditions, the seven-day plan to open the Strait begins.”
According to media reports, the Iranian plan includes the release of approximately $12 billion in frozen assets, the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil, the end of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, in addition to a halt to hostilities in West Asia, including Lebanon, and the resumption of nuclear negotiations.
