The Secretary-General of Iraq’s Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, Abu Alaa al-Walai, affirmed that “it is unbecoming for Iraq to be part of an unjust siege on Iran, the land of knowledge and jihad.”

Al-Walai stressed that “Iraq, which carries the slogan ‘Labbayk Ya Hussein’ as a methodology and position, should make its voice heard through courageous positions that reject hegemony.”

In the context of confronting external pressure, the Secretary-General of Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada called on members of the Iraqi parliament to move and adopt a decisive position by “obliging the government not to submit to American dictates.”

Al-Walai called on the legislative authority and the parliament to reject the written siege imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran and to follow international positions rejecting “dictates,” following the example of “Russia and China.”

Najaf International Airport had announced the suspension of all incoming and outgoing flights to and from Iran as of Friday, September 25, 2026, until further notice, “based on official directives issued by the competent authorities.”

Prior to that, all incoming and outgoing flights to and from Iran had been suspended at the airports of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, following the decision to suspend them at Baghdad International Airport.

This comes after several governments in the region and around the world announced their commitment to the new US sanctions on Iranian aviation. On September 8, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on 27 Iranian airlines as part of a campaign aimed at isolating Iran’s aviation sector from the global financial system.
