Imam Khomeini Airport confirmed on Saturday that flights to Türkiye, Malaysia, China, Pakistan, Vietnam, and Afghanistan are continuing according to their pre-existing schedules.
The airport explained that, with the exception of canceled flights, including flights to the UAE, Iraq, Oman, and Georgia, no new flight cancellations had been announced.
Imam Khomeini Airport in Tehran stressed that efforts are underway to reopen the suspended flights soon.
This comes as several governments in the region and around the world continue to comply with the new US sanctions on Iranian aviation.
The US Treasury Department had imposed sanctions on September 8 on 27 Iranian airlines as part of a campaign aimed at isolating Iran’s aviation sector from the global financial system.
In contrast, China’s Foreign Ministry stressed the continued landing of Iranian flights and rejected unilateral US sanctions.
In Iraq, the closure of airports to incoming and departing Iranian flights, particularly Najaf al-Ashraf Airport, sparked a wave of condemnation from official, political, and religious authorities in the country, calling for the error to be reversed and rejecting Washington’s dictates.
The Iraqi government is also moving toward dialogue with Washington to obtain an exemption allowing the resumption of air traffic with Iran.
In light of Iraq’s airport closures affecting Iran, Ali Akbar Velayati, Adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic of Iran on international affairs, affirmed that the enemy is seeking to compensate for its defeat on the battlefield by dismantling the unity of the fronts from within.
