Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Tuesday that "Israel's enemies" could launch an attack ahead of the upcoming election, while portraying the vote as a choice between the political right and the establishment of a Palestinian state, Reuters reported.

Speaking in a video filmed at an Israeli Air Force base, Netanyahu said he had indications that an attack could be planned before the election.

"Don't mess with us, not now and not ever," he said. "Our long arm will reach you."

The remarks prompted the Israeli opposition to demand that Netanyahu clarify the information behind his warning and explain what he meant by the possibility of an attack before the election.

Netanyahu has made security and military policy central to his campaign, portraying his political opponents as lacking the resolve to confront "Israel's enemies" and defend its positions abroad.
