Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Tuesday responded to statements made by his U.S. counterpart, Marco Rubio, regarding Cuba, accusing him of repeating what he described as a "specific list of lies" aimed at justifying the policy of collective punishment imposed on the Cuban people.

Rodríguez stated that the U.S. Secretary of State repeated allegations on Monday through which Washington seeks to justify its measures against the island nation. He noted that this policy has been met with rejection in recent days by dozens of heads of delegations participating in United Nations meetings.

Rodríguez described Secretary Rubio as one of the most prominent faces of a "despised and isolated aggressive policy," emphasizing that it "relies for its continuation solely on force and intimidation, rather than truth or logic."

The Cuban Foreign Minister's stance came in response to remarks made by Rubio during an interview with the U.S. network Fox News, in which he renewed his characterization of Cuba as a "failed state" and linked the situation on the island to U.S. national security. Rubio claimed that the administration of President Donald Trump would not allow Cuba to turn into an "operational base against the United States."

Rubio added that Washington hopes Cuba will "choose a different path," warning Cuban officials who believe they can wait out the end of the Trump administration's term without making changes that they are "mistaken" and will learn the "lesson the hard way" if they do not alter their course.

These latest positions come at a time when relations between Havana and Washington are witnessing escalating tension, driven by the U.S. administration tightening its economic measures and placing pressure on energy supplies to the island. Meanwhile, the Cuban government maintains its full readiness for dialogue with the United States on the basis of equality and respect for sovereignty, free from pressure or preconditions.
