Iran’s Mission to the United Nations in New York affirmed, in a post on the “X” platform, that the US draft resolution issued on September 17 represents another attempt, lacking any legal basis, to manipulate the Security Council and revive an illegitimate mechanism whose implementation was terminated under Resolution 2231.
The Iranian mission explained, during the United Nations General Assembly meeting on the right of veto, that both China and Russia used their veto power to halt this exploitation, stressing that the Security Council must uphold the United Nations Charter and international law, rather than serve the narrow interests of those who violate them.
The Iranian mission stressed that the United States and its Western allies have no credibility that qualifies them to lecture Iran on nuclear non-proliferation or international law, at a time when they themselves violate it, provide protection for the Israeli entity from accountability, and remain silent regarding its nuclear arsenal.
In its post, the Iranian mission pointed out that their claims of concern over nuclear non-proliferation lose any meaning in light of these countries’ silence regarding the illegal attacks carried out by the United States and the Israeli entity against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities subject to international safeguards.
