The Taiz Network for Rights and Freedoms condemned the continued siege imposed by Saudi enemy mercenaries on Taiz city, along with systematic measures including the closure of vital routes, particularly the Al-Hawban–Al-Qasr Roundabout–City road, and deliberate airstrikes aimed at completely disrupting traffic and cutting civilians off from essential means of life.
In a statement, the network strongly denounced warning notices issued by the mercenaries that allegedly stripped civilians, drivers and civilian transport vehicles using public roads of any safety guarantees and placed them among military targets.
It described the threats as a war crime intended to remove legal protection from civilian objects and entrench a policy of collective punishment amid the province’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The network said cutting major roads and turning them into military target zones amounts to depriving civilians of basic means of survival and preventing patients, students and families from exercising their right to safe movement, in violation of international humanitarian and human rights law.
It further stated that comprehensive sieges, isolating populations and blocking major roads constitute prohibited acts under the Geneva Conventions, while threats against civilians and passing vehicles undermine the principle of distinction and deliberately expose innocent lives to danger.
The network held the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies fully responsible for the alleged legal, moral and criminal consequences of the siege and threats against civilian roads, calling for an immediate end to all forms of siege, threats and attacks on civilian infrastructure and transport.
It also urged the United Nations, the Security Council and international humanitarian and human rights organizations to condemn the alleged violations, exert meaningful pressure to lift the siege on Taiz, and protect civilians and public roads from further attacks.
