Yemeni Armed Forces have achieved a major victory by securing Al-Shamayatin District in southwestern Taiz from mobilizations affiliated with the Saudi enemy.
Al-Shamayatin is one of Taiz’s largest and most strategically important districts.
Located about 45 kilometers south of Taiz city, it covers 617.3 square kilometers and comprises 33 sub-districts and 337 villages. Its administrative center is Al-Turbah.
Al-Turbah has become a key commercial artery for Taiz and a major stop for investors, particularly after the closure of the Al-Hawban route disrupted commercial activity in Taiz.
Much of the commercial activity subsequently shifted to Al-Turbah because of its distance from the main battlefronts.
The district is also known for its fertile valleys, moderate climate, archaeological sites and historic forts, as well as major markets.
Al-Turbah’s location gives it strategic importance as a link between Taiz and Aden and provides access toward Lahj.
Despite its growing population, urban expansion and commercial activity, the area has long faced shortages in electricity, water and communications, along with inadequate infrastructure and public services.
The article also points to unplanned urban expansion, waste accumulation and sewage problems.
Al-Turbah is also known for its intellectual and cultural heritage, having produced prominent writers, scholars and thinkers.
The area contains universities, schools, institutes, manuscripts and tourist sites, while its mountainous setting and views over surrounding valleys give it considerable tourism potential.
The reported securing of Al-Shamayatin comes amid an intensified Saudi enemy military mobilization on several Yemeni fronts.
The district’s strategic location linking Taiz with southern Yemen, together with its commercial importance and proximity to Lahj, makes control of Al-Turbah significant for trade, transportation and movement in southwestern Yemen.
