The National Human Rights Commission condemned the crime committed by the Saudi enemy on Sunday evening, when an airstrike targeted an occupied residential building in the center of Al-Turbah city, in Al-Shamayatayn District of Taiz Governorate. The attack caused significant damage to citizens’ property and terrorized women and children, in a flagrant violation of all international and humanitarian laws and conventions.

In a statement, the commission explained that the deliberate targeting of densely populated residential neighborhoods in Al-Turbah city, where there is no military presence, once again confirms that the Saudi enemy continues to pursue a policy of collective punishment against the Yemeni people. It added that, through the bombardment of homes, the Saudi enemy seeks to undermine the steadfastness and awareness that the people of free Taiz have achieved.

The statement held the Saudi enemy fully responsible for this crime, noting that it constitutes a fully fledged war crime under the four Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law.

The commission called on the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, and the UN Special Envoy to issue a clear condemnation of this crime and not settle for the silence that has encouraged the enemy to persist in its actions. It also called on all local and international human rights organizations to conduct field visits to Al-Turbah city and document the damage and testimonies.

The statement further held the international community responsible for continuing to supply the Saudi regime with the weapons it uses to kill Yemenis in their homes. It affirmed that these crimes will not be erased by the passage of time and that those responsible will be pursued, no matter how long it takes.

The commission stressed that the blood of Yemenis is not cheap, and that targeting the homes of civilians in Al-Turbah will only strengthen the Yemeni people’s steadfastness, resolve, and adherence to the path of freedom and independence, and to expelling the Saudi-Emirati occupation from every inch of the homeland.
